We are seeking an experienced Risk Lead to manage risk policies, underwriting strategies, and credit procedures for distributed power generation (solar and battery storage), energy-as-a-service (EaaS) projects, and equipment finance. This role requires a deep understanding of credit risk assessment, financial structuring, and regulatory frameworks to support sustainable and scalable business growth. You will collaborate with Finance, Sales, Engineering, Legal, and other teams to ensure sound risk decisions align with our objectives and risk tolerance. Underwriting & Risk Assessment
Refine and improve credit underwriting frameworks for distributed power projects, energy service agreements, and equipment financing transactions. Assess counterparty risk for project developers, independent power producers, corporate offtakers, and end customers. Work with the pricing function on financial models, cash flow projections, and collateral structures to ensure risk-adjusted returns. Evaluate contract structures, including PPAs, lease agreements, and as-a-service models, to identify potential risks and mitigants. Lead the underwriting process for energy projects, ensuring a thorough evaluation of technical and financial aspects. Credit Risk & Portfolio Management
Define credit policies and procedures to ensure consistent risk evaluation and decision-making. Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and recommend corrective actions. Maintain credit risk exposure limits and provide reporting to senior management. Oversee the credit approval process and work closely with internal stakeholders. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with project financing, including technical and operational risks. Contract Review & Approvals
Serve as the primary risk representative in the review and negotiation of contracts and transaction documents. Evaluate and provide input on risk-related business terms within contracts, including indemnities, termination rights, performance guarantees, and payment structures. Collaborate with legal and commercial teams to ensure alignment between risk appetite and contractual obligations. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight: Ensure all underwriting processes comply with relevant regulations and company policies; align risk policies with sustainability and ESG standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Leadership: Work with sales, finance, legal, and operations teams to support structured transactions; lead internal risk training programs. Required Abilities And Skills
Strong understanding of financial structuring, credit risk analysis, and asset-backed lending. Expertise in PPAs and energy service contracts. Familiarity with renewable energy policies, tax credits, and incentive structures. Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Experience working with lenders, investors, and credit agencies to assess and mitigate risks. Proven leadership skills with experience managing and developing a team. Exceptional communication and presentation abilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Education And Experience
10+ years of experience in risk management, credit underwriting, or project finance, preferably in renewable energy, distributed power, or equipment finance. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or related field) and/or Finance, Economics, Business Administration. Advanced degree or MBA preferred. Proven track record in underwriting and financial structuring of complex projects, with an engineering background to assess technical feasibility. Physical Demands And Work Environment
