Springer Nature is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for a new Nature Reviews journal – Nature Reviews Computing – that will launch in January 2027.
About the Role The Chief Editor is responsible for recruiting, training and leading a skilled and enthusiastic editorial team and, crucially, for developing the editorial vision, strategy and content of the journal. The successful applicant will work closely with their journal editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including commissioning, manuscript editing and writing for the journal.
Responsibilities For this exciting role, the ideal candidate will have:
A PhD in a relevant field, a strong research background, and connections with the target research communities.
Previous editorial experience; experience with line management would be beneficial.
Broad knowledge of the topics covered by the journal.
Excellent literary and verbal communication skills.
A commitment to the communication of scientific ideas, and an understanding of the Nature Reviews ethos and USPs.
Outstanding leadership qualities.
A positive attitude to change.
Innovative and creative ideas for the future development of the journal.
A key aspect of the job is interaction with the research community, including attending international conferences and organizing site visits. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate and required. A 1,500-word vision statement for the journal (including an outline of the editorial strategy for launch) and 10 ideas for Review articles to commission that cover the breadth of the journal (including a brief (~50-60 words) description of the scope of the article and author suggestions)

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $145,000. This role is eligible for an annual performance-related bonus plan. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
