The Books Division of the University of Chicago Press has been publishing books for scholars, students, and general readers since 1892. Its mission is to disseminate scholarship of the highest standard, promote education, foster public understanding, and enrich cultural life. The Press’s acquisitions editors acquire and develop books that fulfill this mission, working closely with authors, agents, and institutions. Job Summary

The Senior Promotions Manager plans and implements promotional and publicity campaigns for eighty to one hundred and twenty books per publishing season, including high-profile trade books. The Senior Promotions Manager also oversees one direct report. Responsibilities

Writes and circulates marketing copy and seeks blurbs and endorsements for books. Works with authors and client publishers on developing and executing marketing plans for their book, including researching and contacting media and creating review lists, social media content, press releases, and email announcements. Coordinates with other members of the marketing department on issues related to the books that they are working on, including events, advertisements, social media, exhibits, and catalog promotions. Works with other members of the promotions team to help conceive, manage, and carry out larger departmental initiatives. Supervises one direct report from the promotions team. Develops one or more of the following marketing functions: marketing communications and advertising, web blogs or other digital marketing, and market research. Reviews and updates marketing infrastructure which may include one or more database systems, the intranet, and external web sites. May participate in developing new products and services, and determining new markets. Acts as a resource for and trains lower level marketing staff. May attend trade shows as needed. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree. Some graduate work. Experience: At least five years of related experience, preferably in books. Technical Skills or Knowledge: Proficient in Adobe PhotoShop. Knowledge of database, word processing, and spreadsheet software. Preferred Competencies
