ANNUAL SALARY

$121,813 to $178,085 The salary in the Department of Water and Power is $141,503 to $175,809. NOTES

For information regarding reciprocity between the City of Los Angeles departments and LADWP, please refer to the policy document available from the hiring department. JOB SUMMARY

A Database Architect performs technical and administrative work in the development of standards, methods, techniques, policies, procedures, data analyses, data designs, database implementations, and data governance necessary for the productive integration, sharing, standardization, integrity, security, availability, consistency, and usability of data throughout the City’s on-premises and cloud-based databases. The role assists in the implementation, maintenance, operation, or overall management of and database-level integration between the on-premises and cloud-based databases; installs and configures database software and related administration tools and utilities; develops and implements production scripts for database maintenance tasks; tunes and optimizes SQL statements and database/system parameters; develops and conducts training; uses database tools to perform backups and recoveries; ensures database security and compliance with data privacy acts; researches current database issues and technologies; assists application developers in applying sound database technology to new applications; may supervise other technical staff; and performs related duties. RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain database standards, methods, and policies; ensure data governance and security across on-premises and cloud environments. Implement, maintain, and manage database integrations between on-premises and cloud platforms. Install, configure, and administer database software and related tools; create and execute production scripts for maintenance tasks. Tune and optimize SQL, database, and system parameters; monitor performance and implement improvements. Provide training and knowledge transfer; support application developers in database design and technology choices. Perform database backups, restores, and disaster recovery activities; ensure data integrity and availability. Stay current with database technologies and industry best practices; participate in security and compliance initiatives. Supervise other technical staff as needed; perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in information systems, software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field; AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Two years of full-time paid experience installing, administering, tuning, and maintaining databases in a medium to large-scale production environment in Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL, in a City of Los Angeles level at Senior Systems Analyst I, Systems Programmer I, or Programmer Analyst IV, OR Two years of full-time paid experience as a database architect or database administrator in the IT industry with similar scope and platforms, OR Two years of full-time paid experience designing, building, operationalizing, securing, monitoring, and maintaining Google Cloud Platform or comparable cloud platforms for data processing, OR Two years of full-time paid experience as a database architect or database administrator in the IT industry for Google Cloud Platform data processing. A DBA professional certification in one of the listed databases may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

AWS Certified Database-Specialty or other listed selective certifications may be required for certain positions. PROCESS NOTES

Applicants who lack up to six months of the required experience at filing may apply but cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met. Some positions require a valid Class C driver’s license and have DMV record restrictions. Applicants must provide school name, location, degree type, and major in the Education section of the application; accredited education must be from a City of Los Angeles-recognized accrediting agency. Certificates or degrees may be attached in the online application as proof; attachments submitted after filing may not be credited. DBA certifications may substitute for up to one year of experience but must be attached at the time of filing.
