Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT — Canonical Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives across public cloud, data science, AI, engineering, and IoT. We hire globally with many roles not office-based; teams meet in person 2 to 4 times per year to align on strategy and execution. The Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT will support mission-critical industries such as Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, Telco, and Consumer Electronics. The role requires strong Linux competence, distribution packaging, embedded software development methodologies, and the ability to engage with customers across presales and delivery contexts. Note: Some locations may require travel up to 30% for customer meetings, company events, and conferences. For positions in Japan and Korea, professional-level language skills in the local language are a plus. Responsibilities

Engage customers during presales to gather requirements and explain Canonical technologies Elaborate solutions to be proposed to prospective clients Participate in the delivery of selected projects related to Embedded Linux Convey market requirements to key stakeholders and contribute to development or refinement of generic solutions to unlock market potential Serve as a customer advocate and trusted advisor to Canonical Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field Extensive Linux experience with Debian/Ubuntu preferred Distribution/Packaging experience (deb, rpm, etc.) Solid embedded Linux experience (Yocto, Buildroot, etc.) Fluency in at least one of Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust Professional written and spoken English plus local language where applicable Excellent communication and presentation skills Result-oriented, ability to multi-task, and a personal drive to meet commitments Curiosity, quick learning, and collaborative mindset Willingness to travel up to 30% for customer meetings, company events, and conferences For positions in Japan and Korea, professional-level local language proficiency Additional Skills
