Energy Plant Design Manager
– This role joins the Project Management Office (PMO) and supports bidding and delivery of airport projects. The Energy Plant Design Manager leads multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver optimized designs for energy plants, ensuring technical excellence, risk management, and client satisfaction. The position requires extensive experience, technical expertise, and leadership capabilities across multiple energy generation types. This is an opportunity for professional growth within Ferrovial’s Major Projects activity in North America. Duties Lead and manage internal and external engineers within MEP disciplines and coordinate design activities with other design disciplines, Construction, external consultants, and Clients. Make technical assumptions, think independently, and draw engineering conclusions. Provide the best technical solutions to optimize the design, minimize quantities and/or construction time, while meeting all technical requirements. Perform due diligence and review of Energy Plant and MEP design submittals from subconsultants and clients; conduct quality control reviews and validate designs with independent analyses and models. Monitor and report progress against design schedule; review and approve tasks to ensure deadlines are met. Defend design solutions to the Client to achieve design approval. Identify and anticipate technical risks and develop design strategies to protect the company against those risks. Lead activities, including mentorship and guidance of junior employees, sharing advanced technical knowledge and cutting-edge technologies. Coordinate with Clients, Engineering consultants, and other stakeholders to address design and construction topics. Work in a multidisciplinary environment, communicating with the team to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions. Estimate bill of quantities, generate quantities, and perform quality checks on quantities by consultants. Other duties as assigned related to energy plant design (natural gas and nuclear generation, utility power, gas and diesel generators, back-up energy, etc.). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Energy Engineering from an accredited U.S. college or university; preferably from premier civil engineering programs in the U.S. MSE in Energy or Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration in at least one state. 10+ years of experience in relevant Energy Plant design projects; at least 5 years in a Project Manager/Design Manager role with project management responsibility on large, multidisciplinary aviation projects. Knowledge and practical experience with MEP design software. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam, Doc control software, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated leadership and strong work ethic. Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, 3D models, and specifications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment; willingness to learn and apply engineering skills to develop creative designs.
