Overview

General Manager role at Bush Hog (Alamo Group Ag Americas, LLC) in Selma, Alabama. The Operating General Manager directs, plans, and coordinates the activities of a facility with revenue greater than $50 million to achieve financial goals and operational objectives. The role provides P&L leadership, long-term direction, and day-to-day management for the business, including coaching the management team to ensure coordinated functions across Sales & Marketing, Operations, Customer Service, Quality Assurance, Engineering/R&D, Supply Chain, Safety, and Administration.

Position Summary

The Operating General Manager for the facility leads the organization to achieve established financial goals and long-term development, ensuring alignment with corporate leadership and delivering results across the operating unit.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

Identify, develop, and execute business strategies and operational tactics for sustainable, profitable growth aligned to targets set by Group VP, Operating Division EVP, and other corporate executives.

Support growth by investigating options and recommending funding that delivers returns on net assets and operating income.

Ensure alignment with the objectives of Alamo Group Inc. corporate leadership under the EVP for the operating division and the GVP for the group.

Develop and execute the annual operating budget for the Operating Company and participate in the company’s budget planning processes.

Develop and monitor KPIs to ensure continuous operational improvement.

Lead the development of a safety-first culture and oversee compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.

Plan capital expenditures and asset redeployment; prepare CAPEX applications with documentation, alternatives, bids, plans, and financial impact assessments.

Plan, direct, monitor, and forecast the Operating Company’s budget to achieve quarterly and annual growth and profit goals.

Prepare management reports and participate in performance reviews as directed by Group VP and Division EVP.

Promote communication and collaboration within the Operating Company and with other Alamo Group member companies.

Oversee and adjust processes to achieve performance and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

Select, evaluate, coach, and mentor the management team; ensure succession planning with development plans.

Ensure defined business processes exist with clear roles and appropriate compensation.

Represent the Operating Company to outside agencies, including media, reflecting positively on the company and Alamo Group.

Act in accordance with the Alamo Group Code of Conduct and ensure others do so as well.

Ensure expenditures are properly documented with approvals per corporate guidelines and managed appropriately.

Maintain and secure company property, records, and management assets under the position’s control.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Understanding of global market challenges, organizational scale requirements, and processes needed to lead a rapidly growing company.

Knowledge of financial reporting and controls, operational accounting, cost systems, product line profitability, pricing, and planning.

Understanding of strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.

Lean manufacturing knowledge with a track record of improving processes and reducing costs.

Working knowledge of integrated ERP systems and ERP implementations.

Ability to lead change, diagnose problems, and implement solutions; build relationships with executives, vendors, and internal/external customers.

Strong communication and influence skills; ability to operate at strategic and tactical levels.

Ability to select, motivate, develop, and place people to maximize potential.

Willingness to work irregular/extended hours, including weekends/holidays as needed.

Willingness to travel overnight frequently; travel 20-40%.

Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required; MBA or other postgraduate degree desired.

10+ years of progressive operations management experience leading to a senior leadership role in manufacturing; experience in heavy industrial and/or agricultural equipment preferred.

Previous experience as a business unit leader with full P&L responsibility for a manufacturing company or division, including budgeting and business development, is desired.

Experience in leading product development, cross-selling opportunities, distribution networks, and/or production operations is required.
