74772 The Role at a Glance The AVP, Senior Counsel - Life & Annuities, provides legal support to the Lincoln Financial Group business segments that design and administer Lincoln’s individual life and annuity products. Your focus will primarily be on annuity product development, administration and claim activity. What you'll be doing
Responsibilities Provide legal advice and support on: the development and maintenance of Lincoln Financial Group’s individual life and annuity products and services; marketing, sales and distribution to new and existing clients; and the legal and compliance aspects of designing and administering life insurance and annuity products Identify and communicate legal exposure and risk in a timely and proactive manner to internal key senior stakeholders Act as a “thought leader” who will be sought after for advice, counsel, and judgment Execute Draft and negotiate: life and annuity contracts; fund participation agreements; contracts with service and distribution partners; settlement agreements Advocate Lincoln Financial Group’s position with third parties such as federal and state regulatory bodies and agencies Prepare and maintain registration statements for Lincoln’s variable life and annuity products Draft prospectuses and other disclosure documents Oversee the production of legal research including the use of electronic, hard copy, and internet resources, as necessary Responsible for effectively managing time sensitive projects across large multi-disciplined and cross functional teams Select outside counsel and direct them on various legal projects, as appropriate Analyze Review documents and communications prepared for distribution to and/or use by producers and clients Analyze and communicate changes/developments in the laws applicable to life and annuities (legislative, regulatory, case law) Maintain current knowledge of legal developments and trends, assess the impact, and ensure that new trends/developments are appropriately incorporated in current/future strategies What we’re looking for
Education Undergraduate degree; J.D. from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved school and a member of the Bar in good standing Experience Experience with Securities Act of 1933 and Investment Company Act of 1940 Minimum of 10+ years’ experience as an attorney, preferably at a law firm or financial services company Experience with the tax treatment of life and annuities; in-depth knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process, rules, and protocols governing those processes; working knowledge of computer based legal research and other legal systems; in-depth understanding of corporate structure, client organization, and business and corporate protocol; experience reading, interpreting and drafting documents at sophisticated levels (contracts, prospectuses, policies, and proposals); experience in a financial services/insurance organization is preferred; demonstrated ability to recognize and weigh business and legal risks, lead strategically and advance innovative solutions A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions Drives performance targets to completion Application deadline

Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln’s total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on company, business unit and individual performance.
