Overview
The Litigation Support Team at Leidos, supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC, has an opening for a Paralegal to perform litigation support duties. This is an opportunity to use your experience helping the U.S. Department of Justice achieve its mission. Responsibilities
Works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor. Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents. Summarizes depositions and other transcripts. Maintains case files. Performs simple legal research. Indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. Prepares exhibit cross-references. Assists attorneys in courtroom. Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria; includes compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, Claims review, etc. Basic Qualifications
Requires paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study. At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience related to the task order. Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check motions and memoranda; sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Hands-on familiarity with computer applications, including word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging. Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong analytical abilities. Must be a USCitizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance. Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment is preferred. Automated litigation support experience is valued. Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure is important. Trial experience is very helpful. Experience handling a large volume of cases or claims is strongly preferred. Current or active clearance is a plus. This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements and Health and Welfare benefits. Leidos will ensure provisions are met through wages and benefits.
