The Bronx Office of the Department of City Planning (DCP) seeks an experienced urban design professional to lead borough-wide and local plans, collaborate with private applicants and staff to realize mixed-use, affordable and resilient developments, and guide the visual communication of urban design principles for a quality public realm. The Senior Lead Urban Designer will manage a broad portfolio of projects and studies, collaborate across Bronx teams, and supervise urban design staff. The Agency

Manage Bronx urban design initiatives and coordinate with other divisions of the Department, other city agencies, and Bronx communities Review and analyze site plans and development proposals for compliance with NYC zoning regulations and city planning policies; make recommendations on applications Apply strong urban design capabilities including site planning, massing, architectural design, open space, resiliency and sustainability measures Advise Directors on current design practices and precedents from diverse urban contexts Create and organize illustrative and written materials for presentations to the City Planning Commission, other agencies, and the public Manage ULURP and other land use applications; coordinate with divisions, city agencies, community boards, elected officials and the public Mentor and supervise urban design staff and enhance knowledge of planning staff Support neighborhood planning studies with design research, environmental analysis, and visual project identities Develop and maintain knowledge of ongoing planning, land use, transportation, urban design and zoning studies with emphasis on Coastal Resiliency and Waterfront development Areas of expertise may include affordable housing typologies, large-scale and waterfront planning, and resilient and sustainable design strategies Perform other related tasks and projects Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree in architecture from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of full-time experience in planning, design, research, investigations and/or studies related to urban design development programs; or A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with a required bachelor’s degree in architecture; graduate work leading to an advanced degree in architecture, urban design or city planning may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis Minimum/Preferred Skills

Ability to work effectively in a team and independently to complete tasks in a timely fashion; manage multiple projects simultaneously Proficiency in Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS and MS Office; ability to identify new adaptations of these tools Excellent presentation and communication skills; experience speaking publicly and making effective presentations Other Information
