Overview

Position: Communications Officer (Public Safety) Regular, full-time, hourly, non-exempt, benefit-eligible. Location: Main Campus - Edmond, OK. Salary: $15.38 per hour. Schedule: 40 hours per week, shift position. Shifts: 7:00am3:00pm, 3:00pm11:00pm, 11:00pm7:00am. Travel: None. Note: This is a mission-essential role. Emergency inclement weather or other events may require reporting to work as directed. Responsibilities

Receive incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding police, fire, emergency ambulance services, and other campus-related requests (SafeWalk, motorists assists, unlocks, information, after-hours calls). Question callers to determine location and nature of the issue to determine the appropriate response; dispatch units according to established procedures. Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages; monitor access to on-campus facilities for vendors, visitors, and faculty/staff. Enter, update, and retrieve information from telecommunications networks and data systems (e.g., wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and related items). Use the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) to respond to messages from other law enforcement agencies. Maintain files related to emergency calls, personnel rosters, and call-out directories; monitor alarms and respond to system malfunctions or activations. Monitor and operate the campus fire panel system, intrusion alarms, and related equipment; communicate with appropriate authorities. Assist with the Central Alert system, video surveillance monitoring, weather monitoring during severe conditions, and radio communications with public safety units. Provide directions to visitors, issue keys, and manage key issuance and returns; ensure accurate records of keys issued to University employees. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of public safety operations. Qualifications/Experience Required

3+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; general education or vocational training. A valid driver's license and clean driving record; ability to operate a typical motor vehicle. Qualifications/Experience Preferred

No serious misdemeanor or felony convictions; ability to speak English effectively; OLETS certification; thirty (30) college credits. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound, effective decisions. Completion of Oklahoma State Telecommunications Certification within six months; recertification every two years; fingerprinting as required. Ability to attend weather monitoring software training within one year; clear and concise oral and written communication; calm demeanor under stress. Strong record-keeping, password security, and information management skills; proficient use of Microsoft Word and public safety communications equipment. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse public safety providers and maintain professional relationships; ability to follow complex instructions and maintain confidentiality. Physical Demands
