Overview
Orcas Island Children’s House (OICH) is seeking a passionate and experienced Executive Director to lead our early childhood education center. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administrative, financial, and daily operations of the organization. The Executive Director supports and empowers staff while ensuring the mission and core values of OICH are reflected in all relationships and practices. This position works closely with the board of directors to develop and implement long-term strategic plans and represents the organization to the greater community. Orcas Island Children’s House is an infant to toddler center and preschool located on Orcas Island, Washington. OICH has been serving children and their families since 1969. We make it our mission to provide a dynamic play-based curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten and life. Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements: Comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and implementation of WA Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and Early Childhood Assistance Program rules and regulations Ensure adherence to all applicable licensing, regulatory, and legal requirements (inspections, insurance, taxes, etc.) Recruit, train, empower, and support staff, ensuring high quality ECE standards and developmentally appropriate practices: Mentor staff, foster collaboration, and create a culture of safety, respect and inclusion amongst the team Ensure that all staff are properly vetted and trained according to state, local, and organizational requirements Develop, manage, and monitor annual organizational budget Oversee day-to-day financials (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, etc.) and meet or exceed budget targets Work with Board of Directors on annual budgeting and fundraising targets and campaigns Secure additional funding through identifying and applying to applicable grants Ensure implementation of high quality ECE program consistent with OICH’s mission and values Ensure the supervision of all children within defined ratios set by DCYF and OICH Ensure curriculum is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of each child Ensure all children are treated with dignity and respect Ensure proper communication with parents, children, and co-workers Handle confidential matters appropriately and with sensitivity Ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained physical environment Strategic planning and management of annual repairs and maintenance and capital improvements Build and maintain positive relationships with the board, staff, families, constituents, and community members Collaborate with the board, staff, and volunteers to promote and fulfill the mission and values of the organization Perform additional duties as requested by the Board of Directors. Deep commitment to OICH’s mission, values, and teaching philosophy Familiarity with, or willingness to learn about, the Reggio Emilia approach Strong organizational and prioritization skills Proven leader of people and capable of creating an inclusive and respectful environment for staff and families Exceptional communication and relationship building skills with students, staff, and parents Strong and sound judgement, problem-solving and conflict resolution Collaborative and respectful in working with diverse perspectives Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field and three years of experience working with children Two years of experience in administration or management, preferably non-profit leadership Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear Light to medium work, with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 35 pounds Knowledge and understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Professional Standards and Competencies Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) Professional Standards Foundational Quality Standards for Early Learning Programs (WAC Chapter 110-300) Salary & Benefits
