Overview
We’re seeking a
Data Security Engineer
to join our global data services team. This role is critical to ensuring the security, privacy, and integrity of data across our platform—spanning public, enterprise, and AI-generated datasets. You’ll help build and enforce security controls within a zero-trust architecture, support compliance initiatives (ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2), and collaborate closely with data scientists and engineers to secure data without disrupting innovation. Why This Role Matters: As we scale rapidly and handle sensitive data across Fortune 1000 enterprises, our security and compliance posture is paramount. From ISO 27001 to SOC 2 and GDPR, we’re building a Zero Trust architecture that ensures Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) for everything from public web data to proprietary enterprise systems. You’ll work side-by-side with our Chief Security Officer and Architect to build, own, and mature security controls within the data services layer—laying the foundation for platform trust, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity. What You’ll Do
Own encryption for data at rest (AES-256+) and in transit (TLS/MTLS, GRPC). Manage and secure key material using KMS and vaulting solutions (e.g., HashiCorp Vault). Implement Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for secure user and service interactions. Define, enforce, and audit data policies using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, etc.). Evaluate, tune, and (where necessary) deploy DLP, NDR, EDR, and XDR systems. Develop and validate disaster recovery processes and participate in BIAs. Perform security audits on authentication/authorization practices (AAA), data classification, and aggregation pipelines. Collaborate with engineering and data science to embed lightweight, non-disruptive security into LLM/AI model workflows. Support and accelerate compliance goals, especially SOC 2, ISO 27000, and GDPR mapping. Contribute to architecture decisions involving Databricks, Azure, and multi-cloud deployments. Help design secure, multi-tenant containers for highly sensitive, enterprise-specific data. Required Qualifications
5–7+ years of experience in data security, database administration, or engineering roles with a strong security focus. Hands-on experience securing platforms like Databricks, Azure, or CosmosDB. Experience with RBAC, KMS/Vault, TLS/SSL, and AES-256+ encryption. Solid grasp of Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), pipelines (CI/CD), and containerized environments. Knowledge of security auditing, access control, AAA, data classification, and pseudonymization/anonymization practices. Background in heavily regulated industries like healthcare, finance, or higher education. Familiarity with frameworks and certifications like SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and Zero Trust architecture. Preferred Experience
Experience securing AI/ML/LLM data workflows in a multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environment. Background in data warehousing or big data systems with a focus on security hardening. Certifications such as CDPSE, CCSK, CISSP, or vendor-specific certs (e.g., Databricks, Oracle DBA). Exposure to DLP alternatives like XDR, NDR, and EDR. Comfort working with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Data Services) across multiple time zones. Our Data Types (What You’ll Help Secure)
Public data.
