Job Description:
The University of Florida College of Medicine seeks the next Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine, who will be responsible for developing strategies to advance the research, education, clinical, innovation, and community engagement missions of the Department. This visionary leader will have programmatic oversight and will continue to develop, scale, and innovate the Department's scholarly programs and research portfolio, while optimizing care delivery and clinical operations in a growing and complex health care platform. This collaborative team player will work closely with high-performing leaders at one of the leading emergency medicine programs in the country. Key Responsibilities
Develop and articulate a shared vision for the strategic growth, innovation, and direction of the Department of Emergency Medicine, across education, research, and clinical missions, in alignment with enterprise strategic imperatives. Provide visionary and innovative leadership for the Department's next phase of growth and development. Support the success, growth, and development of faculty and staff within the department. Develop and clearly communicate faculty research, teaching, and clinical expectations; and manage individual performance to expectations. Lead the development and implementation of effective and innovative educational programs for faculty, providers, and learners. Provide oversight of the academic infrastructure required to maintain a high-quality academic environment designed to support the best in professional education and academic accreditation of the Department's training programs. Further develop and foster an integrated research program, in alignment with institutional strategic priorities. Promote a culture of discovery and innovation, while building and facilitating research, encouraging applications for grant support, and promoting publication in high-impact, peer-review journals. Promote patient-centered care, excellent service, seamless care coordination, physician leadership as well as innovative and efficient care delivery. Provide administrative oversight for departmental budgets and resources.
Expected Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Hold, or be eligible for, promotion to the academic rank of professor and licensed or eligible for medical licensure in Florida.
Preferred Qualifications: Education and Experience
An M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degrees from an accredited institution with board certification in Emergency Medicine Eligible for licensure in Florida Demonstrated experience and achievement in academic and clinical administrative leadership Current rank of Associate Professor or higher Ability to create and articulate a vision for the department and achieve this vision A strong track record of scholarly achievement in emergency medicine and ability to support investigators Ability to grow a cohesive team, fostering a sense of community and collaboration Ability to build purposeful programs to recruit and develop clinical faculty and clinician-scientists Ability to promote a culture of respect, positivity, and inclusivity Proven history of developing new programs Proven successful track record as a mentor Financial and operational skills with proven business acumen; exceptional organizational and negotiation abilities Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, evolving matrixed environment Exceptional skills in advocacy and influencing, with the capability to represent and advocate for the department, team, and resources across the academic, research and clinical enterprises
Setting Strategy The ability to create and articulate an inspiring vision for the Department of Emergency Medicine. The inclination to seek and analyze data from a variety of sources to support decisions and to align others with the organization's overall strategy. An entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries within the field of medicine. The ability to effectively balance the desire/need for broad change with an understanding of how much change the organization is capable of handling; to create realistic goals and implementation plans that are achievable and successful. Executing for Results
The ability to set clear and challenging goals while committing the organization to improved performance; tenacious and accountable in driving results. Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
