Purpose : Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) are individuals with deep expertise in a therapeutic area who require in-depth scientific information due to patient care, research, and education needs. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program supports these needs through field-based medical professionals who possess deep knowledge about specific disease states, Lilly products, and the competitive landscape. MSLs facilitate scientific exchange between industry and the scientific/clinical communities and communicate feedback and insights to inform Lilly’s strategic direction for research, development, and commercialization. Primary Responsibilities : This job description provides a general overview of the requirements at the time of preparation. Scientific & clinical knowledge An MSL provides leading researchers and practitioners with scientifically and clinically meaningful knowledge, synthesizing the latest research on products, disease states, and standard of care for specific indications and therapeutic areas. This requires substantial experience and continuous learning to maintain expertise within a given TA and to respond to customer requests with unbiased, up-to-date information. Full spectrum SE/CE support MSLs act as a primary interface between Lilly Medical and SEs/CEs to deliver positive experiences, support HCPs in sharing evidence, and address clinical care gaps for improved patient outcomes. They connect SEs/CEs with Lilly resources and collaborators as appropriate and facilitate collaborative research opportunities. MSLs partner with clinical development to support studies and investigators to accelerate the pipeline and evidence generation. Field Execution, Geo Management and Productivity MSLs analyze customer data, plan and prioritize engagements, and implement a strategic territory plan. They use tools to execute activities, maintain accountability for performance, and collaborate with other Lilly field teams to provide a coordinated experience. They utilize territory analytics for customer identification and routing. Strategic vision and leadership MSLs synthesize and communicate actionable insights to internal Lilly Medical and cross-functional teams. They exercise good judgment, escalate issues as appropriate, and build internal networks. They collaborate with peers and Lilly colleagues, adapt to changing business needs, and use innovative resources. They work compliantly and as an effective team member, adhering to governing requirements and laws. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualification Requirements: Scientific/clinical acumen: Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) required. In addition to PharmD/MD/PhD, a minimum of two years of relevant clinical or TA experience is desirable. Master’s or bachelor’s degree in health sciences (e.g., BSN, RPh, PA, NP) may be considered with 5+ years of clinical, research, or industry experience. Authorization: Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide work authorization or visa sponsorship for this role. Licensure/Driving: Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Location: Applicants should reside within the geography (Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming) and near a transport hub. Travel up to 80% and weekend commitments may be required. Interpersonal and skills : Interpersonal, presentation, planning, and digital skills; experience with complex scientific content; effective strategic and critical thinking; advanced presentation and computer skills; excellent verbal and written communication; self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities; strong teamwork and emotional intelligence; resiliency; intellectual curiosity; comfort with field-based tools and virtual engagement; experience in field-based environments and familiarity with health systems, academia, and medical education. The anticipated wage for this position is $145,500 - $213,400. Full-time employees are eligible for a company bonus (based on company and individual performance) and Lilly’s comprehensive benefits program, including 401(k), pension, vacation, medical/dental/vision, flexible benefits, life insurance, time off, leave, well-being programs, and more.
