Overview This position is part of the Office of Enterprise Assessments, Office of Enforcement, Department of Energy. As a Health Physicist, you will conduct investigations of possible violations of the Department's nuclear safety regulations, review all aspects of the radiation protection program for the organization's missions and tasks, and lead teams of DOE and contractor technical experts in the conduct of investigations, inspections, reviews, and associated technical analyses.

BASIC REQUIREMENT

Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

Or: Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education.

Or: Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in the first paragraph.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:

Conducting audits or assessments to ensure ongoing compliance with nuclear safety programs.

Analyzing nuclear safety issues to identify underlying trends, causes, and potential mitigations.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-15 level.

"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
