Our ADAS Compute hardware team is at the forefront of developing technologies like Super Cruise Hands-Free Automated Driving that enhance vehicle safety, performance, and autonomy. As we strive to build the best infotainment experience in GM vehicles for our customers, we are forming a hardware engineering team that will own the end-to-end design and development of vehicle displays hardware. The Senior Hardware Design Engineer – Display Development will be responsible for the technical design and development of the new display electronics hardware platform for GM’s next generation vehicles. The role requires an experienced professional with a background in automotive ECU architecture, design, and analysis, and a proven ability to successfully launch infotainment hardware into production. Responsibilities
Design of LCD/OLED display electrical hardware: MCU, TCON, SERDES and other key component selection, schematic capture, worst-case analysis, PCB layout, bring-up, debug, signal integrity and power integrity (SI/PI), design verification test (environmental and EMC), to manufacturing support and production launch Design and development of the display hardware platform from concept design to launch, meeting cost, timing, quality, and safety targets Deep understanding of the display backlight unit, FOG to be interfaced with display electrical hardware for final display assembly Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as software, mechanical, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of the electrical design of the display hardware Work closely with contract manufacturing partners to ensure successful product build from prototype through mass production, while maintaining quality, cost, and timing targets Electrical schematic design and PCB layout Support new IC design and development strategies for new display designs Perform and support detailed hardware analysis – worst-case analysis, signal integrity, power integrity, etc. Execute bring-up of hardware design from power supplies, SoCs, MCUs, SerDes interfaces, network devices, etc. Lead design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for testing (DFT) Drive validation and testing of hardware components and systems to ensure high reliability and performance Establish test plans and protocols to validate designs against requirements Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and develop solutions to resolve design problems Support manufacturing partners in troubleshooting and resolving production-related issues Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure optimal solutions Lead or support DFMEA/PFMEA of display hardware and ensure lessons learned and best practices are included Provide guidance and consultation to Design Release Engineers Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer Engineering or equivalent; Masters preferred 5+ years of experience in electronic hardware design, with a focus on display hardware design and automotive hardware electronics design Proven ability to launch display build-to-print hardware into production Experience in designing display hardware and components such as MCUs, TCON, GMSL, FPD-Link, power supply design, etc. Strong proficiency in circuit design, schematic creation, PCB layout, signal integrity and power integrity, and power management Experience with design and analysis tools such as Mentor Graphics, Ansys, Simplis, Altair, Mathcad, PSpice & Saber Knowledge of requirements engineering processes (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses) Knowledge of verification and validation processes Knowledge of embedded software development, testing, and related tools Understanding of hardware design and failure modes Knowledge of design development and test engineering, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for testing (DFT) Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills Proven ability to lead complex projects in fast-paced, cross-functional environments Compensation
The compensation information is a good faith estimate based on applicable state laws. It may not reflect positions outside of certain states. The salary range for this role: 131,000 to 202,000. The actual base salary offered will vary based on factors relevant to the position. Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
