Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
- Onsite Position. We are looking for an enthusiastic
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
to join our technical staff in our Integrated Systems group in
Ashburn, VA . Santa Clarita is our center of excellence for hardware level system integration and advanced package design. As our
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer , you will prepare working plans, detailed drawings and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of moderately complex components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions and rough or detailed sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes, frequently using computerized equipment (e.g., CAD/CAM). You will perform engineering computations, write specifications and make adjustments in drawings or specifications, and verify completed work, checking dimensions, materials and quantities to be used. You will design and analyze complex mechanical systems, equipment and packaging using engineering expertise; conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs; direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication; and provide design information to drafting for packaging documentation. Responsibilities
Conceptualize, design, and document solutions to mechanical problems.
Conduct experiments, collect data, interpret results, and write analysis and test reports using engineering expertise.
Perform hand calculations and generate FEA (Finite Element Analysis) models using modeling software as part of iterative design activities and selection confirmation.
Generate Structural and Thermal Analysis Reports for distribution to internal and external customers.
Collaborate with other Engineering Departments, Program, and Operations to facilitate design activity.
Interface with vendors and customers to collect necessary data.
Participate in, and provide material for, Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDR and CDR).
Interface with internal and external customers IAW program need.
Provide technical support to failure investigations and bid responses and lead failure investigation teams.
What You Bring Required:
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or Applied Mechanics or Physics from an ABET-accredited institution and a minimum of 10 years in aerospace or a similarly regulated industry, or a Master of Science in Aerospace, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years in aerospace or a similarly regulated industry.
Experience with MCAD (Mechanical Computer Aided Design) software. SolidWorks is preferred.
Experience with Liquid Flow-Through Chassis (LFTC) Design.
Experience with Project Management and Project Management Software (MS Project, Jira).
Experience with operating Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering methods and software (e.g., Cameo, DOORS).
Familiarity with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) (e.g., Ansys).
Familiarity with Finite Element Modeling (FEM) software (e.g., ABAQUS).
Familiarity with Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) Design.
Familiarity with a systematic approach to bolted joint analysis (ASTM, Shigley’s, etc.).
Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, Fault Tree).
Experience with Thermal and Vibration analysis IAW Steinberg.
Experience with thermal analyzers (e.g., Sinda).
Familiarity with FEA methods and software (e.g., Nastran, Ansys).
Experience with writing thermal and/or structural reports as customer deliverables.
Experience with delivering and presenting material for PDRs and CDRs.
