Overview

The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Sr. Software Development Engineer (Sr. SDE)/Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) to play a pivotal role in the development of industry-leading multi-modal and multi-lingual Large Language Models (LLM). The Sr. SDE/MLE will help lead the charge in developing algorithms and modeling techniques that push the boundaries of large model training using cutting-edge hardware such as GPUs and AWS Trainium. The work will impact customers’ lives through products and services powered by Generative AI breakthroughs. The role involves leveraging Amazon’s data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate the development of multi-modal LLMs and other Gen AI applications, and defining data strategies, enrichment processes, model optimizations, and evaluation methods that set new industry standards. Key responsibilities

Ability to quickly learn cutting-edge technologies and algorithms in Generative AI to participate in building the best LLMs. Develop and maintain key platforms for developing, evaluating, and deploying LLMs for real-world applications. Collaborate with team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility. Work closely with Applied Scientists to process massive data, scale machine learning models, and optimize performance.

A day in the life

As a Sr. SDE/MLE with the AGI team, you will lead the development of novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state of the art of large model training using hardware such as NVIDIA GPUs. Your work will impact customers through products and services that utilize Generative AI innovations. You will leverage Amazon’s diverse data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate development with multi-modal LLMs and other Gen AI applications. You will influence the overall strategy and shape the future direction of AGI at Amazon, driving system architecture and promoting best practices to ensure high-quality infrastructure. Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to move fast and deliver high-quality software.

Basic qualifications

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience 5+ years of programming experience in at least one software language 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team

Preferred qualifications

5+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US markets. The base pay ranges from $151,300/year to $261,500/year depending on location and experience.
