Position: Senior Associate Director of Development, Athletics. This role leads fundraising strategy for the Athletics Department, focusing on identifying, cultivating, and soliciting alumni and parents capable of making gifts of $100K+. The position directs a team to increase both dollars and donors, build engagement with the Athletics Department, and refine gift opportunities aligned with department priorities. Responsibilities
Under the joint direction of the Director of Athletics and Recreation and the Senior Director of Development in the College, create and implement comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni and parents with capacity to make gifts of $100K+; direct a team focused on increasing dollars and donors, building engagement with the Athletics Department, teams, and coaches, and refining gift opportunities based on department priorities. With the Director of Athletics, execute campaign fundraising and engagement goals to transform athletics over the coming decade. Achieve personal fundraising and activity goals monthly, quarterly, and annually by managing a portfolio of approximately 120 athletic prospects; target 100 prospect visits per year; and raise over $1M annually. Provide regular progress updates to managers on fundraising strategies with key prospects. Manage the Assistant Director of Athletics Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving; implement a comprehensive engagement and annual giving strategy. Support the athletics annual giving society, Friends of Maroon Athletics, and serve as development liaison for coaches and volunteer boards; develop and execute a Giving Day strategy to elevate Athletics as a top donor unit. Coordinate meetings with prospects and Athletics leadership, coaches, and College/University leadership as part of cultivation; maintain strong communication with College and University colleagues to strengthen donor relationships; enhance fundraising communications with coaches and staff. Deliver timely follow-up to prospects and donors, including customized fundraising proposals for athletics; generate contact reports in the prospect database after visits; partner on stewardship for major gift and planned giving donors in collaboration with College partners. Serve as a content expert for the College and Athletics; provide content for the Athletics Department website, publications, brochures, and collateral materials; assist in coordinating major gifts donor activities at select athletic events and represent the Athletics Department at events as needed. Pursue professional development opportunities and build networks within the University and peer institutions in athletics. Establish fundraising goals and priorities based on department objectives; design strategies to meet those goals and monitor progress. Identify, analyze, and qualify donor interest to maximize giving; assist with planning for the University’s most important prospects; develop independent communication strategies for projects, including publications and public presentations. Perform other related work as needed. Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Work Experience
5-7 years of work experience in a related discipline. Successful major gift frontline fundraising for 3+ years, with experience closing gifts at the $100K+ level. 5 years of professional experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, PR, sales, or similar roles. 1-2 years leading a project team or managing staff; 1 year developing and monitoring budgets. Athletics fundraising experience and knowledge of higher education; strong affinity for intercollegiate athletics. Certifications and Competencies
