We are hiring for an Associate Director, Project Controls to be based on-site in the Thousand Oaks, CA area, supporting large scale life science projects. You will enable project success by applying your technical knowledge of Project Controls Services to develop, standardize, implement and execute project controls systems on portfolios and projects.
Responsibilities
Oversee a client account with significant growth potential or a portfolio of smaller clients as the primary point of contact. Deliver Project Controls Services including capital planning, portfolio/project governance, front-end planning, project funding, project setup, construction technology, procure to pay, cost & commercial management, schedule control, risk management, and project close-out. Engage in business development to defend, maintain and grow managed accounts. Participate in resource management including talent acquisition, retention, development and utilization. Lead staff development through supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring. Prepare and manage fee proposals. Provide mentorship and training on measurement methods, construction technology, contracts and delivery methods. Participate in industry events. Manage business aspects of assigned areas including revenue and margins; monitor accounts receivable and projections. Lead cost controls for projects with multi-phase structures or complex funding requirements. Partner with Director Project Controls on QA/QC reviews of junior controls staff. Plan and lead lessons learned sessions post project closeout. Perform other duties as assigned and maintain standard work hours.
Knowledge & Skills
Technical competency in project controls offerings: capital planning, governance, front-end planning, funding, setup, construction technology, procure to pay, cost & commercial management, schedule control, risk management, close-out. Ability to manage and monitor team activity aligned with organizational goals; delegate with clear instructions and ongoing feedback. Strong communication skills; build relationships with internal stakeholders; provide feedback to senior leaders. Leadership abilities and alignment with company values in client-facing roles. Value engineering to identify savings opportunities and ensure material substitutions are equivalent. Proven business development skills to grow current market presence. ERP proficiency (e.g., SAP, Oracle); scheduling proficiency (Primavera and MS Project); contracts management understanding (pre/post award); cost management; experience with analytical/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI); familiarity with project information management systems (Procore or ACC Build). Excellent verbal and written communication.
Education & Experience
Preferred Education and Experience: Education: BS in Construction Management, Engineering, QS, Architecture, or related field Experience: 10+ years of experience in project controls Preferred Certification: MRICS, CPE, CCE, CEP, PMP, Six Sigma
Work Environment
Work Environment: Cumming Group Office; Client Office; Project Site. Other locations may be specified as needed.
Physical Demands
Typical demands include continuous sitting, constant use of sight and communication, ability to lift up to 20 pounds, and wearing PPE when visiting construction sites. PPE items include closed-toed shoes, hard hat, reflective vest as required.
Travel
Domestic Travel 0-10% and 10-25%; International Travel 0-10%. Other travel ranges may apply based on project needs.
Compensation & Benefits
FLSA Status: Salary Exempt Salary Range: $132,800.00 - $185,933.36 per year. Range depends on position, geography, client, and experience. This range reflects base salary only and does not include total compensation. Cumming Group reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), 401(k) matching, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, Short and long-term disability, Employee Assistance Program.
