Midcareer Trauma Surgeon with Research Leadership Focus. Division of Trauma | Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix & University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. The Division of Trauma Surgery at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) is seeking a midcareer Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon with a strong track record in clinical research and academic leadership. This role combines high-volume clinical care with shaping research strategy and mentoring trainees in an academic, multidisciplinary environment. Location: Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, 1111 East McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006. Academic appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, commensurate with experience. Key focus on clinical research development, fellowship program support, and trauma program advancement. Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team with high acuity in trauma, acute care, and critical care patients. Contribute to the academic development of medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching and mentorship. Responsibilities
Provide high-volume clinical care in trauma, acute care, and surgical critical care settings as part of a multidisciplinary team. Advance clinical research strategy and support fellowship programs; contribute to trauma program development and education. Mentor and teach medical students, residents, and fellows; participate in scholarly activities and academic service. Participate in Emergency, Trauma Surgery and ICU calls; lead and participate in program initiatives to improve patient outcomes. Collaborate with other departments and institutions to enhance educational experiences and research opportunities. Engage in donor and program development activities as part of the division’s growth. Qualifications
Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship training in Trauma, Acute Care, and Surgical Critical Care Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience Active or eligible Arizona medical license and DEA registration ATLS Instructor certification Demonstrated research leadership with recent publications, academic activity, and professional society involvement (within last 3 years) Prior academic or teaching excellence awards (preferred) Strong commitment to education, collaboration, and health equity Additional desired skill qualifications (optional): Chest wall stabilization (rib plating), Robotic Surgery, Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) or Thoracotomy, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tube, Abdominal wall reconstruction, Cutaneous grafting, Tracheostomy, Cricothyroidotomy Practice Details
Multidisciplinary team providing care across Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Outpatient Follow-up Clinics Participation in Emergency, Trauma Surgery and ICU calls; approximately 180 shifts annually Adult Level 1 ACS Verified and State Designated Trauma Center Affiliation with the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix Research Institution Compensation & Benefits
