Overview
CBS News is seeking a hard-working and capable Social Media Associate Producer AP with a passion for news and politics to help us optimize the biggest stories of the day for social platforms. This role requires strong editorial judgment and social media expertise to recommend the best treatment for each platform. The candidate will produce and edit videos that engage audiences on Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and YouTube, often using in-platform tools and features to render text and graphics that feel authentic to the audiences we are trying to reach. An ideal candidate has an eye for the most newsworthy and shareable moments within larger news events, press conferences, interviews and segments on Face The Nation, and is proficient in the production techniques and standard processes for crafting vertical social videos, still graphics, Instagram carousels and link posts to articles. This Associate Producer will write share language for captions and titles that are concise, shareable, and fully in context and in line with the CBS News brand. Strong candidates will have experience covering breaking news and be willing to work newsroom hours, including nights, weekends and holidays. They will help oversee the continued growth of the accounts to which they are assigned, including metrics like followers, video views and engagement. This role will require working evening hours from Wednesday to Sunday. Responsibilities
• Produce and edit videos for social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube) using in-platform tools to render text and graphics. • Identify and surface the most newsworthy and shareable moments within large news events and segments. • Write concise, contextually accurate captions and titles in line with CBS News branding. • Create vertical videos, still graphics, Instagram carousels and link posts to articles. • Subtitle video for social using editing platforms and text tools within TikTok and Instagram. • Oversee growth metrics for assigned accounts, including followers, video views and engagement. • Monitor and adapt to breaking news, working under tight deadlines. Qualifications
1 to 3 years of social media or newsroom experience Proven interest and proficiency in politics and/or foreign affairs Deep familiarity with social media platforms, audiences and guidelines The ability to write about a variety of topics in a strong, yet unbiased way Outstanding writing, producing, and editing skills with an established portfolio of published work Ability to quickly and accurately subtitle video for social, using both editing platforms and the text tools within TikTok and Instagram Ability to work well under tight deadlines, and be fast and responsive when news breaks Degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications or related Member of the Writers Guild of America or willing to join upon job acceptance What We Offer
