Overview
We’re looking for an Android Platform Engineer with hands-on experience working with the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). You’ll work on system-level Android development — modifying the OS, integrating hardware support, and customizing the Android framework to suit product needs. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy working close to the system, contributing to the core Android stack, and solving low-level platform issues. Responsibilities
Build, customize, and maintain Android images using AOSP for custom embedded devices Modify and extend Android framework components, Java system services, and native services Integrate new hardware via HALs (AIDL/HIDL), and work closely with BSP and hardware teams Debug and fix system-level issues including crashes, boot loops, and hardware integration bugs Configure SELinux policies, permissions, and system security mechanisms Optimize system performance, stability, and boot times Contribute to OTA update mechanisms and factory image preparation Collaborate with app developers, product teams, and embedded engineers Qualifications
Required 3+ years of experience in Android platform development or embedded Linux Proficiency with AOSP internals, Android framework, Java system services and native services Solid understanding of the Android system architecture: init, Zygote, Binder, system_server and Java system services Experience writing and integrating Android HALs (AIDL/HIDL) Strong programming skills in Java, C/C++, and shell scripting Proficient with adb, logcat, dmesg, fastboot, and low-level debugging tools Experience working with AOSP build tools: lunch, make, Soong (Android.bp) Preferred Experience with device bring-up on custom hardware or non-standard Android devices Exposure to Qualcomm, MediaTek, or other SoC platforms Contributions to custom ROMs or open-source AOSP forks (e.g., LineageOS) Experience with OTA systems, bootloaders, and recovery images Knowledge of Android Verified Boot (AVB), encryption, and secure boot processes Familiarity with Android Wear OS or Android for IoT Location
