Job Description: The Part-Time Professional Math Tutor provides comprehensive one-on-one and small group tutoring to TRIO SSS students in a variety of math subjects including: statistics, pre-calculus, calculus, informal geometry, and linear algebra. This role is essential for supporting students’ academic success by helping them understand complex quantitative concepts, improve their problem-solving skills, and develop effective study habits. The tutor will work closely with the TRIO Student Support Services team to ensure students receive targeted, high-quality academic assistance. Key Responsibilities: Provide Tutoring to TRIO SSS Students: Offer one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions for TRIO SSS students in a range of math courses, from developmental math (e.g., algebra, pre-calculus) to higher-level subjects (e.g., calculus, statistics, linear algebra). Create a Positive Learning Environment: Foster a supportive, encouraging, and non-judgmental atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Track Student Progress: Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, including student attendance and learning goals. Collaborate with Staff: Work with the TRIO SSS team to identify student needs, share insights or concerns, and develop strategies to enhance academic support services. Requirements: Qualifications: A bachelorb s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field is required. A masterb s degree is preferred. A minimum of two years of professional tutoring or teaching experience in mathematics is necessary. Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly first-generation college students, low-income students, or students with disabilities, is highly desirable. Skills: Strong knowledge of various math subjects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience and empathy. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additional Information: This is a part-time, non-benefited position.
