The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the legal team for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), providing quality representation and legal advice on a wide range of highly visible national issues. OGC supports the development and implementation of the Department's programs by providing the highest quality legal services to the Secretary of HHS and the organization's various agencies and divisions.
Responsibilities The Incumbent is responsible for the work that involves the interpretation and application of federal statutes having no court precedents. Establishment of basic interpretative standards for application to new programs and activities, the review and clearance of letters, press releases, and other materials to be issued by the Department. Provides litigation services for program operations involving supervision of assistance to, and coordination with the DOJ including United States Attorney Offices.
Incumbent is responsible for administering the e-discovery program and coordinating the use of e-discovery technology with agencies and offices within the Department. Provides oversight and guidance to the Department on litigation holds. Develops e-discovery best practices and technology forward solutions for the Department.
Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
Subject to a 1-year supervisory probationary period (unless already completed).
Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
May be subject to pre-employment and random drug tests.
File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
You may be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
