We are seeking a Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to support the planning, coordination, and execution of projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role partners directly with a Project Manager and provides key support with schedules, estimating, takeoffs, subcontractor coordination, and overall project documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to grow into project management by gaining hands-on experience in all phases of construction. The position reports to Operations. Location
Main office: Bozeman, Montana Projects across Montana: Big Sky, Whitefish, Big Timber, and beyond Some travel required for site visits and client meetings Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Assist with estimating by conducting takeoffs and preparing proposals. Issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to subcontractors/vendors, review bids, and create bid comparison analyses. Develop subcontract scope checklists and buy-out logs. Ensure architectural narratives and project-specific details are incorporated into estimates. Draft subcontract scopes of work and coordinate buy-out process with Project Manager. Construction Maintain Lessons Learned log to capture project challenges and solutions. Take and distribute OAC meeting notes; draft weekly project updates for ownership. Manage project documentation in Procore (RFIs, submittals, drawing updates, ASIs). Issue subcontract agreements as directed by the Project Manager. Ensure field teams have access to subcontract scopes and project documents. Maintain and update project schedules; distribute weekly updates to field and office teams. Track and update change orders, buy-out logs, and job cost reports. Review and code invoices prior to Project Manager approval. Provide ongoing support to field teams with timely communication and coordination. Closeout Coordinate subcontractor and vendor closeout notices. Assemble and deliver owners manuals, warranty items, and subcontractor/vendor contacts. Collect and organize project as-builts for all applicable trades. Technology & Certifications
Sage 100 Contractor AutoDesk Bluebeam Microsoft Project Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) Proficient in blueprint reading and building codes OSHA 10 Certification Requirements & Skills
BS in Construction Management, CET, or equivalent OR 3+ years of project engineer experience in construction. Strong communication skills (in person, phone, and email). Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and projects. Solid decision-making and leadership skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
