Summary: The Continuous Improvement (CI) Director is responsible for driving operational excellence across both plants by identifying, leading, and sustaining process improvement initiatives. Using Lean, Six Sigma, TPM and other CI methodologies, this role works collaboratively with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and Supply Chain to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity while maintaining food safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the plant’s continuous improvement strategy, fostering a culture of accountability, problem-solving, and innovation.
  • Facilitate Kaizen events, loss analysis, root cause analyses, and value stream mapping to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement standard work, visual management systems, and key performance metrics.
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute CI projects that deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, cost, delivery and morale.
  • Track and report progress of CI initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Partner with Engineering and Maintenance to support automation, process optimization, and capital projects.
  • Coach and mentor plant leaders, supervisors, and team members in Lean and CI tools, such as root cause analysis, SMED changeovers, 5S, visual management, error proofing and tier boards.
  • Provide training on problem-solving, waste reduction, and process efficiency.
  • Champion employee engagement in continuous improvement at all levels of the plant.
  • Analyze operational data to identify performance gaps and develop action plans.
  • Drive KPI achievement related to OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), downtime, throughput, and waste reduction.
  • Ensure sustainability of implemented improvements through audits, follow-ups, and documentation.
  • Ensure all improvements align with food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, SQF, USDA, FDA).
  • Promote a safe work environment and partner with EHS to reduce risk and improve workplace safety practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related field.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing (food manufacturing strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated success leading CI or Lean initiatives with quantifiable results.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, or related CI frameworks. Redzone or other shop floor productivity process preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing KPIs, cost savings, and efficiency improvements.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Ability to lead workshops, training, and cross-functional teams effectively.
