Civil Defense Litigation Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm based in Chicago, IL, is partnering with a recruiting agency to identify a driven Associate Attorney with 1 to 5 years of relevant litigation experience. This opportunity involves hands-on responsibility across all stages of civil defense litigation, offering strong mentorship and exposure to courtroom practice.
Duties:
Prepare and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
Conduct in-depth legal research and draft supporting memoranda
Manage assigned litigation matters, including timelines, filings, and court requirements
Represent clients at court appearances, hearings, and case management conferences
Assist in or conduct witness and expert depositions
Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on litigation strategies
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in the state of Illinois
1 to 5 years of experience in civil litigation, preferably with a defense focus
Proven ability to handle discovery, motion practice, and courtroom appearances
Strong case management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Illinois State Bar
Skills:
Exceptional legal writing and analytical skills
Confident oral advocacy and interpersonal communication
Familiarity with case law research tools and litigation software
Professionalism and reliability under deadlines
