Environmental Resource Management (ERM) is seeking a Principal Consultant, Capital Project Delivery to play a key role in growing our power sector business. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success leading permitting tasks on capital development projects including electric transmission lines, overseeing staff in a project setting, assessing environmental conditions and impacts, and strong technical writing and communication skills. Experience permitting transmission line projects is highly desired. The desired candidate will optimally be located in the Midwest , but we are open to considering candidates elsewhere in the Northeast .

This position focuses on providing routing/siting and permitting support for electric transmission and distribution projects and renewable energy projects. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The candidate will work both independently and on project teams, managing varying priorities and multiple tasks to meet project deadlines. Strong organizational and project deadline tracking skills are required. The candidate may serve as a project manager and/or task manager on multi-disciplinary projects depending on experience and qualifications.

As a principal project manager, you will contribute leadership, client relationship, and technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM’s business and client base while networking with ERM\'s global impact assessment team and technical experts to share best practices across the industry. Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide technical expertise on routing/siting and permitting for power projects for a variety of clients with complex needs.
  • Conduct detailed routing analysis and prepare summary routing reports for power projects.
  • Prepare permit applications where required by federal, state, or local environmental regulatory authorities for energy development expansion, and maintenance projects.
  • Be familiar with United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and other state/local permitting requirements.
  • Develop plans and schedules and develop project management reports, such as monthly progress reports.
  • Participate in agency consultations, project meetings, and client communications.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute project delivery tasks. ERM services broadly include environmental impact assessment, routing studies, land use planning, facility siting & permitting, and risk assessment and water resources management.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time for agency meetings, project team meetings, or site visits.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with clients to expand ERM’s profile and market share within the industry.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master\'s degree in environmental science, Natural Resources or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of consulting or industry experience supporting power clients with routing/siting and permitting projects.
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations including the Clean Water Act (Section 401/404 permitting), the Endangered Species Act (Section 7), and the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106).
  • Experience reviewing Erosion and Sediment Control Plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, NPDES Construction General Permits, and associated detailed construction drawings for accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and prepare concise and accurate technical documents.
  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; integrity; and the experience and confidence to address client and business needs and project challenges.
  • Excellent writing, communication, collaboration, project management, strategic thinking, and people skills.

Compensation & Benefits

For the Principal Consultant, Capital Project Delivery position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $104,236 – $137,540 (USD). Pay is based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance, travel requirements, and business needs. This role may be eligible for bonus pay where applicable. Benefits include paid time off, parental leave, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and other eligible benefits.
