The Opportunity:

West Liberty University is seeking applications for an experienced and innovative Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer will partner with faculty, subject matter experts, and other campus stakeholders to design, develop, and deliver both online and technology-enhanced courses and programs. In support of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Online Education (CTLOE), this position creates, delivers, and assesses professional development programming for faculty and staff. Additionally, the designer participates in accreditation, reporting and compliance activities and provides technical assistance with various edtech tools used at the university including the Learning Management System, Canvas.

The Instructional Designer position is a permanent, full-time, position that is benefits eligible. While an on-campus presence is preferred to foster collaboration and community engagement, we understand the benefits of remote work. For highly qualified candidates, a hybrid or fully remote work arrangement with occasional travel to campus expected for key meetings and professional development is negotiable.

Essential Functions of the position:

Provides instructional design guidance and support to faculty. Collaborates with both full-time and adjunct faculty to develop new courses as well as maintain existing online courses. Facilitates training for faculty who possess various levels of online teaching/learning experience through one-on-one meetings, verbal and written communication, group workshops (face to face or virtual), and lunch and learn style discussions. Responds to requests for assistance from faculty on the use and navigation of LMS. Resolves or seeks assistance with faculty issues related to course design and LMS. Addresses and/or escalates comments, compliments, and complaints from faculty. Builds relationships with faculty members. Provides LMS support to students. Responds to requests for assistance regarding the use and navigation of the LMS. Assists with troubleshooting and resolving student issues. Assists with delivery (face to face or virtual) of student online learning orientation. Addresses and/or escalates comments, compliments, and complaints from students. Builds relationships with students. Provides support to CTLOE including general LMS maintenance and troubleshooting, internal Quality Matters review of online courses, designing training workshops for faculty and students, and participating in Distance Education committee work. Follows up on requests from internal and external constituents as needed. May assist in accreditation activities, departmental assessments as well as other reporting activities. Learns new software and educational technology tools. Builds relationships with staff in other university departments. Completes regular professional development to stay informed about current research and trends in online and hybrid education, course design and facilitation, adult learners, and emerging technologies. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field required. Master's degree in education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field preferred. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 2-3 years of experience as an instructional designer or curriculum developer is preferred. Experience with video editing, graphic design, HTML coding, e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud preferred. Knowledge of accessibility standards including ADA and WCAG as well as experience with open education resources (OER) and open pedagogy preferred. Previous experience in online teaching is preferred Skills/Abilities:
