Overview
Principal Enterprise Architect - Hybrid Infrastructure. The Hartford is seeking a strategic and technically proficient Enterprise Architect to lead the design and governance of hybrid infrastructure solutions spanning AWS, GCP, and on-premises datacenters. This role will also spearhead the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) capabilities into enterprise platforms, ensuring scalable, secure, and future-ready architecture. Work arrangement: Hybrid schedule with in-office presence 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) at Charlotte, NC; Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; or Columbus, OH. Responsibilities
Provide architectural oversight for solutions leveraging AWS, GCP, and on-prem infrastructure. Lead the development of infrastructure blueprints, reference architectures, and reusable patterns. Partner with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Application teams to deliver scalable and resilient hybrid solutions. Architect scalable GenAI platform integrations using services like Vertex AI, Amazon Bedrock, and open-source LLMs. Act as a trusted advisor to business and IT stakeholders on infrastructure modernization, cloud-native and GenAI adoption. Evaluate emerging technologies and trends in hybrid cloud, edge computing, and infrastructure automation. Drive initiatives to optimize cost, performance, and operational efficiency across hybrid environments. Create and maintain architecture artifacts including reference architectures, decision records, and capability models. Mentor solution architects and engineers on hybrid and GenAI best practices. Analyze emerging industry business and technology trends translating implications for new capabilities within functional and technology domains. Educate and influence stakeholders to promote business process and system simplification, risk management, and innovation of the technology portfolio. Lead architectural activities within specific business and/or technology domains ensuring integrity of artifacts across all domains. Work with extended architecture, business, and IT support teams to develop functional and technical blueprints roadmaps to deliver a functional and automation change agenda aligned with strategic direction for one or more lines of business. Ensure automation and business strategy implements scalable, reusable, and integrated solutions. Oversee architecturally significant projects to ensure alignment of designs to overall IT and/or business strategy. Accountable for architecture metrics at a segment level. Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 5 years in cloud and hybrid environments. Proven experience with AWS and GCP architecture and services. Strong understanding of datacenter technologies (virtualization, networking, storage). Experience with AI/ML platforms and GenAI tools (e.g., LLMs, LangChain, vector databases). Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), CI/CD, and DevSecOps. Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect. Experience with Kubernetes, service mesh, and container orchestration in hybrid environments. Knowledge of data governance, MLOps, and AI ethics frameworks. Experience integrating GenAI into enterprise workflows (e.g., knowledge management, customer service). Candidate must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position. Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstrated competencies required for the role. The base pay is one component of The Hartfords total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
