Job Summary :

The Core Tax Services Senior Manager is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues, communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy, and makes decisions regarding filing, preparation and resolution of questions from federal/state agencies. The Senior Manager is a key member of the office/region leadership team, actively participating in marketing, networking and business development within an area of specialization, while maintaining client relationships and serving as the primary contact for complex questions.

Tax Compliance: Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensure self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM). Lead top-level review of tax returns and resolutions of tax issues with clients; involve specialists where appropriate. Plan for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consult with the client and/or partner as appropriate. Research: Identify when research is needed; clearly frame issues to be researched; report the analysis concisely; identify complex issues to be researched by the engagement team and provide research methodology. Train managers/staff on research skills and help frame tax issues for analysis. Involve firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Apply Firm policies, standards, and TQM regarding ASC 740; educate others on ASC 740 and Firm policies. Review tax provisions and prepared workpapers; explain components of income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients. Tax Consulting: Develop, recommend, and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing current and future taxes; apply tax knowledge with business/industry context to recommend solutions. Maximize client benefits while managing risk; confer with STS specialists to determine applicability of STS consulting specialties; monitor implementation of client service plans if applicable for tax consulting projects. Manage client inquiries from federal/state agencies; provide assistance with protests at the appeals level; implement applicable firm strategies; manage client expectations. Develop in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues across taxation areas (e.g., individual, corporate, property, sales, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits). May organize or participate in external CPE training sessions in area of specialization at least once per year. Train and mentor managers/seniors/associates in specialization areas; introduce and develop new ideas to improve client, Firm, or personnel position. Research and implement tax strategies, including testing new strategies and ideas; identify and suggest improvements to previous work products or approaches. May lead marketing campaigns related to role; present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients; perform other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise associates and senior associates on projects; review work and provide feedback. Train Associates and Seniors on current software tools; act as a Career Advisor to associates and seniors. Schedule and manage workload; provide verbal and written performance feedback. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesEducation

Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred Experience

Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred Prior supervisory experience required License / Certifications

CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) or equivalent required Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred Software

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite preferred Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred Language
