The Microbial Diseases Laboratory (MDL) of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and reference laboratory services, applied research, training, and subject matter expertise for a wide range of bacterial, mycobacterial, fungal, and parasitic infectious diseases. The salary information listed on this advertisement may not reflect recent salary increases from salary adjustments or changes in the fiscal year. The CDPH is not currently an E-Verify employer. Department Website: https://www.cdph.ca.gov Candidates in one of these classifications, where a Masters Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Masters and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount. This position oversees the Foodborne and Waterborne Disease Section Genotyping Unit. The Genotyping Unit performs whole genome sequencing of enteric bacterial pathogens for outbreak surveillance. The Unit Supervisor works closely with other MDL Sections, state epidemiologists, and federal partners. The incumbent is responsible for developing and writing standard operating procedures for laboratory testing, quality control, and quality assurance. They will also oversee the development and validation of new sequencing technologies, workflows, and bioinformatic pipelines. Overview

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate: Experience working in a BSL2 laboratory. Experience with short read Illumina sequencing. Experience in method validation, quality control, and quality assurance in a regulatory or clinical testing environment. Experience using software to analyze and compare sequence data. Experience working with enteric bacteria such as, Salmonella, Shigella, and Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. How To Apply
