General Definition of Work The Transit Data Entry Specialist performs data analysis, auditing, and reporting duties. Work is performed under the supervision of the Transit Lead Data Analyst.

Shift:

Weekdays between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM Occasional weekends may be required.

Enters data accurately to generate route and schedule information for both internal and external customer-facing systems Coordinates with multiple divisions within the department to generate accurate data to be used for the data collection systems Coordinates with multiple divisions within the department to generate accurate reports from Blacksburg Transit's data collection systems Assists with developing, maintaining, and updating data collection protocols, system documentation, and training materials for all data collection systems Produces reports on ridership, service level, and other related reports, with an emphasis on required standardized reports for the Federal Transit Administration's National Transit Database, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and internal stakeholders Documents, tests, diagnoses, and mitigates basic issues in data collection systems Assists with the research, procurement, testing, and implementation of data collection and reporting systems Audits data to verify accuracy of data collection systems Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy Possess a demonstrated ability to plan and schedule assigned work Working knowledge of the principles and practices of public transit operations Possess a strong working knowledge of MS Office suite Possess a general knowledge of a wide variety of hardware and software associated with Information Technology or Intelligent Transportation Systems General knowledge of data and telecommunications protocols and industry standards, such as those for the internet, intranet, security and data networks General knowledge of computer software applicable to public transit Ability to operate motor vehicles safely and efficiently Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, and the general public Education and Experience Associate's degree in data analytics, computer science, information technology, statistics, or mathematics and 1 to 3 years of experience working in a public transit system, 1to 3 years of experience in information technology and/or Intelligent Transit Systems, data entry, data analysis, or equivalent combination of education and experience Special Requirements Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling Work has standard vision requirements Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities Work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
