POSITION SUMMARY:

Facilitates athletic opportunities for students with disabilities, allowing students to participate in specialized sports, team building activities, and competitions through sports as approved through the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and the American Association of Adapted Sports Program (AAASP). Serves in an event management position for adapted athletic events at the adapted sports complex. This position will engage with both school and community, to promote inclusivity, and improve physical and mental stability.

This position reports to the Director of the Department of Exceptional Students and Strategic Improvement with additional oversight by the Executive Director of Athletics .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors both student-athlete and coaches participation documents needed for competition in the approved database. Ensuring student-athletes meet participation guidelines through AAASP. Ensure all coaches and assistant coaches complete AAASP sport-specific certifications and online rules clinics and train annually.

Solicits sponsorships and initiates fundraising for adapted athletics. Seeks alternative sources of revenue to strengthen adapted athletic opportunities and program self-sufficiency. Consistently build relationships with local organizations, businesses, and alumni to support the adapted athletic program and promote team spirit.

Coordinates and manages transportation for adapted athletic events and documents expenditures, submits billing for approval and processing. Transports equipment to sporting events and associated activities. Documents participation efforts related to gender equity.

Publishes approved schedules of adapted athletic events, schedules scrimmage games per request and scheduling practice games and events. Serves as brand ambassador for adapted sports, and fosters good community relations by promoting all student athletes via multiple social media outlets.

Oversees maintenance, upkeep and safety of their adapted sports' athletic facility (gym, offices, weight room, etc.) and equipment.

Actively recruits eligible participants to sustain and grow the adapted athletics program. Collaborates with counselors, coaches, and special education coordinators to maximize post-secondary opportunities for student-athletes. Educates parents on the Collegiate Adaptive Sports program and professional wheelchair sports opportunities.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in a related field required.

Minimum of three (3) years of managing athletics programs or related experience required.

Makes decisions and final recommendations which routinely affect the activities of others.

Valid Driver's License required.

Must have completed or be willing to enroll in and pass Special Education: HB671: Identification and Characteristics of the Exceptional Child PD Course.

GHSA and National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Association credentialing required.

High level of judgment required; individual required to establish and evaluate organizational objectives with approval of Executive Director; independent judgement is required to review and approve major recommendations.

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance; requires continuing contact with officials at higher levels. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams.

Responsible for supervising multiple functions with a high-level of accountability for effective operation and results. Requires excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Requires mastery of social networking, website applications, handheld device applications, etc.

Responsible for the welfare of others constantly (daily).

Normal office setting in addition to indoor and outdoor work. Must be able to work on practice fields, game fields, and courts. Must be available to work evenings/weekends and work to conform to athletic schedules.

Noise levels during work may vary depending on the sporting environment.

Moderate duty - On most occasions, walking or standing: intermittently sitting, standing, pushing wheelchairs, stooping. May engage in physical exertion related to position.

Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.

NOTE: This is grade 25, 200-day psotion that pays for experience up to a step 4.
