Overview
Principal Software Engineer, Video Technologies Paramount+ is seeking a Principal Software Engineer who is passionate about streaming video technology down to the MP4 atom level. You are an expert in Go, cloud-based scalable infrastructure, and modern design principles. You will lead and deliver complex projects, mentor engineers, and build high-performance services that power low-latency, high-throughput environments. Base pay range: $176,800.00/yr - $225,000.00/yr Hiring salary range: $176,800.00 - 225,000.00. This range applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on factors such as location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Responsibilities
Experience writing specifications and technical documents, including reviewing them with partners and revising as appropriate. Collaborate with partners across the organization, including at the specification phase. Own projects from inception through specification and spec reviews to release and initial post-release monitoring. Be a domain expert on: Fragmented vs non-fragmented MP4 files; Transport Stream vs CMAF; HLS vs DASH and manifests; DRM technologies (Widevine, Fairplay, PlayReady); SSAI, CSAI, DAI; and optimizing streaming video delivery for target devices. Understand networking, distributed systems and IaC, including TCP/IP networking, DNS, Terraform, Kubernetes and Docker. Qualifications
Basic Requirements: Minimum 15 years of professional software development experience; expert in Go (multi-threading, memory management, context handling); strong SQL-based database experience; experience integrating FFMPEG into products/workflows; open-source development experience. Additional Qualifications: Bachelors degree in CS/Engineering/Science or related field or relevant experience; transparent open-source repositories of projects/code; recorded public speaking at technical conferences (e.g., Demuxed, Mile High Video, IBC, NAB).
