Our short-term positions are not part of the salary scale that is advertised within this job posting. Should this position revert to a short-term seasonal position (less than 90 days), your salary rate will be discussed with you during the interview phase of the process.
Salaries are based upon full-time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the Supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays.
About the Department The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state park systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is one of the largest park systems in the nation, with over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, golf courses, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails and parkways, and more.
Duties
Responsible for daily operation of Freetown State Forest Spray Deck.
Performs maintenance tasks to assure a well-maintained, safe and clean facility, including restroom cleaning, building cleaning, and coordinating with employees on projects as needed.
Patrols recreational areas and facilities to maintain security and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations and policies.
Collects and accounts for all fees collected on their shift and reports all income through the DCR reporting system on a daily basis while on duty.
Maintains records and prepares reports concerning assigned work to provide information and make appropriate recommendations.
Operates and performs routine maintenance on various types of equipment and vehicles; provides information to the general public; uses small hand tools.
Provide accurate information to park visitors about all park-related activities available to them.
First Consideration First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the maintenance and/or repair of recreational facilities or in recreational management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitution
A certificate, diploma or degree as evidence of satisfactory completion of at least a two-year program in a recognized school above the high school level in building construction technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology or mechanism power engineering may be substituted for the required experience.
Education toward such a program will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
Special Requirements
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Standard First Aid and Personal Safety Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
