Department Detail – The BGEA Information Technology (IT) department consists of Operations (networking/routing, servers, storage, security cameras, telephony), Service Desk (end-user hardware and software management/support, event support, general IT assistance), Cybersecurity (threat defense, monitoring/analysis, awareness, and compliance), Enterprise Solutions (application and web development, data visualization, report writing, database management), and Enterprise Solutions Support (Donor/CRM, Financial, HR, and other ERP-type solutions support). The IT department supports, develops, scales, and secures the assets, infrastructure, and programs required by all areas of the ministry while maintaining availability. Job Summary – This position directly manages database and SQL services, prepares feasibility studies and time/cost estimates. Plans and directs the development of new or revised databases, SQL queries and jobs, reports, Tableau datasets and visualizations, and other data-related functions for ministry use. Ministry Requirements Essential Duties And Responsibilities Staff development and leadership for the Database Administrators, SQL Analysts, and Report Writers Responsible for the stewardship, management, and oversight of the Association databases Responsible for managing the team that designs, builds, queries, and manages ministry databases Responsible for maintaining ministry data across multiple enterprise systems including but not limited to financial, donor, and website databases Responsible for managing processes that import data into ministry databases and ensuring data integrity Collaborates with vendors during data migrations to new software platforms Works with Cyber Security and IT Operations to ensure ministry data and databases are secured and run on current server technology Works with Application and Web Developers to ensure donor and financial data is accessed securely Provides guidance to staff regarding data structure, dependencies, and definitions Ensures staff training on new technologies implemented in the department Maintains hands-on involvement to ensure timely SQL programming, mailing lists, and report writing requests Provides IT solutions and assistance to customers across the Association Leads the database services team using Agile/Scrum practices including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and retrospectives Partners with cross-functional IT and business teams to align database deliverables with Agile timelines Drives the database services team to deliver on-time, high-quality solutions that meet business objectives while adhering to secure SDLC practices Marginal Duties and Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor staff professional development plans Other duties as assigned Job Specifications Skills and Knowledge Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience/certifications) and 5-7 years working experience with database management and SQL programming in a team lead/management role in a medium to large enterprise 5 years of hands-on experience with enterprise financial and donor management (CRM) systems Five or more years of SQL and relational database experience (MSSQL and MySQL preferred) Heavy user contact and training experience Effective communication with a wide range of audiences Ability to see the big picture while managing details Experience managing database development within a full SDLC framework Experience with project management and Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) Experience applying Agile or hybrid SDLC methodologies for database projects Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) Good listener and problem-solver Strong business relationship development and communication skills Excellent verbal and writing skills Physical/Mental Demands Maintain confidentiality Ability to deliver work on a tight deadline Flexible self-starter in a dynamic environment Willing to carry a cell phone/pager as necessary Working Conditions Conventional office and technological environment Mission Statement – Continuation of Billy Graham’s lifelong work to proclaim the Gospel and equip the church to do the same.
