Overview

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for the development, optimization, and maintenance of data pipelines and architecture. This role plays a key part in ensuring data integrity, performance, and accessibility across the enterprise. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in data integration (Boomi), database management (SQL Server and Oracle), and data modeling to support enterprise reporting, particularly through Power BI. Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Boomi and other relevant tools. Integrate data from various on-premise and cloud systems (including SQL Server, Oracle, APIs). Ensure data integrity and consistency across systems and data environments. Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve pipeline performance and reliability.

Database Design & Optimization

Develop logical and physical database schemas, ensuring performance, normalization, and scalability. Perform query tuning, indexing, and partitioning on SQL Server and Oracle databases. Lead database architecture decisions and enforce best practices for structure and storage. Create and maintain documentation for data dictionaries and models.

Analytics Support & Reporting Enablement

Collaborate with business analysts, data analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data needs. Enable Power BI report development by designing and maintaining efficient and reliable datasets. Ensure semantic layer consistency and optimize Power BI data models for performance. Support ad-hoc data exploration, ensuring high-quality and governed data is accessible for analysis.

Innovation, Governance & Continuous Improvement

Evaluate new tools and technologies for data integration and warehousing. Implement and advocate for data governance, lineage, and security policies. Contributes to the evolution of the data platform architecture and roadmap. Mentor junior data engineers and analysts on best practices in engineering and design.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field. Masters degree preferred. Minimum 6 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or a similar role. Proven experience with Boomi or equivalent iPaaS tools for data integration. Deep experience with both SQL Server and Oracle databases. Strong exposure to enterprise reporting environments using Power BI. Residence in the greater Cincinnati Metropolitan area

Technical Proficiency

Advanced SQL skills and ability to optimize large-scale queries. Proficiency in database design, normalization, indexing, and performance tuning. Experience in scripting (T-SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell, or Python preferred). Familiarity with CI/CD for data solutions and version control systems. Exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus.

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Effective communicator able to translate technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders. Collaborative mindset and ability to work across cross-functional teams.
