Information Technology (IT) Division and Database Unit within the Colorado Department of State. The Database Manager will lead the database unit, supervise a team of Database Administrators, and work across multiple production and development environments. The division provides information systems and computer support for employees, customers, and the people of Colorado, with opportunities for remote work and a focus on data integrity, security, and performance. Responsibilities

Supervise the DBA team and act as a Database Administrator (DBA) as needed. Provide tier-level support for database events and data issues using the existing ticketing system. Serve as the IT expert in Data Analysis and Integrity, working across development projects and with IT staff and users of existing and proposed systems. Design and construct new databases with a focus on data integrity and cross-division integration; maintain and enhance existing applications. Implement data conversions when necessary and perform database design using logical and physical models. Proactively monitor and respond to events to keep the database running smoothly and ensure speedy recovery of data and user connectivity. Oversee design, analysis, development, testing, and maintenance within the team. Test and evaluate new development technologies (e.g., Postgres, Oracle, Mongo, SQL Server) and assess new database software for CDOS suitability. Balance application performance, user efficiency, and data integrity in development and production environments. Maintain confidentiality of all confidential, personal identifying, or proprietary information in compliance with state and department policies. Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a total of six (6) years of professional experience and/or related education. Applicants must meet one of the following options: Option 1 Experience:

Six (6) years of professional database administration experience with at least one year in a leadership role supervising a team of two or more staff. Option 2 Experience and/or Education:

A combination of related education (degree or coursework in relevant fields) and professional experience equaling six (6) years, with the same leadership requirement as Option 1. An unofficial transcript may be requested to qualify for this option. Note: Related education includes Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, Mathematics/Statistics, Data Science/Analytics, Database Management, Engineering, or closely related fields. Education will not substitute for the leadership experience required in Option 1. Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

State service experience related to the role is preferred. Strong interpersonal relationships with peers and senior management; ability to collaborate with senior leadership to identify and implement solutions. Database administration experience in production and development environments; architecture/design experience. Experience with Postgres, Informix, SQL Server, Mongo, or Oracle; hands-on with database standards and performance optimization; HA and DR experience. Scripting skills (SQL, PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and deployment; database security, access controls, encryption, authentication, and auditing. Problem solving and independent work style with effective cross-team collaboration; experience with hiring, onboarding, and training processes. Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey technical information to non-technical users. Experience with cloud databases and stored procedures; data migration and integration; data analysis. Competencies include continuous learning, SQL skills, performance tuning, security management, automation, troubleshooting, database design, DBMS knowledge, data migration, and inclusion. Note:
