Safety Manager Position Summary:
The Safety Manager is responsible for supporting project site crews and Safety Specialists by visiting project sites, assessing the project site for unsafe work conditions, and working with project managers, site supervision and safety personnel to properly control and minimize risks and hazards to protect employees, subcontractors and the customer. Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety and environmental related risks. Develop project sites safety plans, Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and training for project sites. Visit active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with project site safety plans and with local, state and federal regulations. Document unsafe work conditions and health hazards. Work with project management, site supervision and craft workers to develop and implement solutions to safety findings on project sites. Determine corrective or preventative measures where necessary and follow up to ensure they are implemented. Manage contractors safety programs and training; recommend changes as necessary for compliance. Audit orientation and annual safety training records for compliance. Conduct investigations of accidents and injuries through interviews, inspections and review of PPE, materials and project site gear. Recommend appropriate disciplinary action when safe work practices are violated by employees and subcontractors. Provide updates to the Project Manager, Director of Safety and executive staff on a regular basis. Ensure all required records and reports are up to date and submitted to comply with internal processes and local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure project sites have appropriate safety equipment. Manage Safety Specialists at project sites where assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety. Qualifications
5-7 years construction safety managerial experience or equivalent combination of training and related experience. Experience and/or training in Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and EPA rules and reporting processes for construction and mine safety. Ability to professionally represent the company when dealing with external organizations and all levels internally. Ability to communicate and train effectively. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business materials and regulations. Ability to exercise good business judgment and common sense when making recommendations and decisions. Ability to multi-task and thrive where numerous tasks and projects occur simultaneously. Ability to meet deadlines in short time frames. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the company at project sites and offices, and effectively deal with vendors, subcontractors, customers, and regulatory agencies. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Supervisory Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and manages the work of Safety Specialists to ensure work is accomplished in accordance with requirements. Provide guidance to team members and monitor performance, discipline and attendance on a regular basis. Responsible for professional development of Safety Specialists. Promotes team-oriented collaboration and positive morale, and aligns with company vision and values. Assist in employee recruitment, performance management, promotions, retention, and termination activities. Work Environment
Outdoor work in varied weather conditions; exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid environments. Work near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles; work environment can be loud. Licenses and Certifications
Valid state drivers license with acceptable driving record. OSHA 10- and 30-Hours Construction Certifications OSHA Construction Authorized Inspection CSP, GSP, CHST, or STSC preferred First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification Educational Requirements
