Overview
Sr Software Engineer - Realm-X at AppFolio. Were seeking a mid-level Full Stack Software Engineer II to join our AI Engineering Group (Realm-X) to help drive the evolution of our Workflows Platform, which automates key business processes such as leasing, maintenance, move-ins, and move-outs, and enables agents to build automated workflows. We work collaboratively to set the technical direction for our SaaS and AI products, delivering value to customers and focusing on developing easy-to-use solutions. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building leading-edge software at the intersection of workflows, AI Agents, and automation, with a preference for small teams that set technical direction collaboratively. Responsibilities
Develop front-end and back-end scalable features for AppFolios web-based workflow builder for Property Manager businesses. Develop and improve AppFolios DSL (Domain-Specific Language) to allow customers and internal teams to create customizable business processes. Formulate, implement, and evaluate algorithms and database queries to support SaaS scalability and stability. Implement new features and optimize existing ones to drive performance. Use test-driven development, code reviews, and continuous integration to deliver high-quality software and rapidly fix bugs. Collaborate with engineering peers, QA, product owners, and customers to incorporate feedback. Leverage Agile practices to develop rapidly while maintaining quality and prioritization. Research, share, and recommend new technologies and trends. Qualifications
Experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, or similar languages (Go, Python, JavaScript). Strong interest in learning new technologies and maintaining codebase longevity through refactoring and cleanups. Commitment to work-life balance and sustaining productivity. Hands-on experience developing web-based SaaS applications in cloud environments (e.g., AWS). Nice to Have
Knowledge of Ruby on Rails, React, Go, Python, AWS; experience with Temporal workflow technologies. AI/ML knowledge or production deployment experience; AI Agents knowledge (LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI API, LLMs, prompting). Experience across all levels of the development stack; familiarity with Agile (Scrum or Kanban) and Test-Driven Development. Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range is 114,400.00 143,000.00 USD annually, with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, education, and experience. This base pay is part of a broader Total Rewards package. Regular full-time employees are eligible for benefits. About AppFolio
