Principal Engineer Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in California to lead and certify fiber optic and broadband network designs for projects throughout California and the Southwest. This role will play a critical part in expanding ACGs project portfolio, ensuring engineering compliance with California regulations, and supporting rural and tribal broadband initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in outside plant (OSP) fiber design with the ability to review, approve, and stamp engineering packages for regulatory submission. Responsibilities Serve as ACGs licensed California P.E. for broadband/fiber infrastructure projects. Review and stamp network designs and construction packages for California-based work. Provide engineering oversight on CPUC-funded and federally funded broadband projects. Work collaboratively with OSP designers, CAD technicians, and project managers to ensure high-quality, compliant deliverables. Lead technical problem-solving and support field engineering staff with design clarifications and adjustments. Ensure compliance with California Board for Professional Engineers regulations and applicable permitting authorities. Mentor junior engineers and design staff, providing technical guidance and quality reviews. Participate in project planning, risk mitigation, and client meetings as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Active California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (Required). Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in outside plant (OSP) fiber optic network design, broadband infrastructure, or related telecom utility engineering. Strong understanding of GPON/XGS-PON, aerial and underground fiber construction methods, and permitting processes. Familiarity with CPUC, BEAD, ReConnect, or similar federally funded broadband programs (preferred). Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS tools, and Microsoft Office. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality engineering work. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
