Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
- Valid RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or a participating NLC state
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Skilled in health assessments and identifying student health needs
- Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency care procedures
- Ability to implement health policies and maintain accurate records
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in digital documentation and file maintenance
- Prior nursing experience preferred (school-based experience a plus)
Direct Nursing Services:
- Deliver individualized care using professional nursing judgment and protocols
- Develop and manage Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with medical needs
- Communicate with families and coordinate referrals with healthcare providers
- Administer medications and monitor treatments per district guidelines
- Respond to emergencies and secure medical care when needed
- Advocate for student health and wellness across campus
- Support campus health curriculum and provide health education to students and staff
- Contribute to school-wide health initiatives and parent communications
- Partner with campus leadership to promote a healthy school climate
- Participate in ARD meetings and collaborate on IEP/IHP development
- Advise staff during health-related crises and suspected abuse cases
- Maintain confidential health records and required documentation
- Supervise and train LVNs and clinic aides
- Coordinate screenings and staff training (e.g., diabetes care assistants)
- Monitor clinic inventory and request supplies as needed
- Ensure compliance with state and district health regulations
- Stay current with nursing practices and maintain required certifications
- Participate in ongoing training and professional learning
- Oversee the work of LVNs and health clinic aides assigned to the campus
- Tools/Equipment: Standard medical and office equipment
- Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, lifting (up to 45 lbs), and assisting students with mobility needs
- Environment: Exposure to communicable diseases and biological hazards
- Mental Demands: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain composure under stress
