Overview
We have an exciting and inviting opportunity for a Human Resources Generalist to be based in our Corporate Office at JS West Milling Co. The Human Resources Generalist will perform administrative tasks and daily functions of the HR department including entering and approving time in HRMS, applicant screening, onboarding staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. Location information: Modesto-based home office with work throughout Central California.
Responsibilities
- Acts as back up for payroll
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications, including scheduling physicals, drug screens and lift tests
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, directing more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings and investigations
- Advises managers and supervisors regarding appropriate resolutions of employee relations issues
- Reports and coordinates Workers Compensation claims with carrier and provides managers with claim information regarding restrictions and return to work
- Maintains records of core insurance enrollment and handles billing
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
- Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately
- Provides clerical support to the HR department
- Assists with the Safety Department and DOT/Compliance Recordkeeping
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- At least 2 years of human resource experience required
- At least 1 year of payroll experience required (Paylocity/UKG)
- Travel up to 25% of the time (home base corporate office in Modesto, office throughout Central California)
Work Environment and Special Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds at times
Compensation and Benefits
Pay: $33.00 - $37.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Job Type: Full-time
