General Information & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The student mascot is a dynamic and engaging individual who represents the spirit and pride of Black Hawk College at various campus and community events. This position involves being the figure head underneath the college’s mascot costume, creating marketing content, and attending a variety of events to create a warm, welcoming, and energized atmosphere for everyone.

This is a district wide position with travel.

Description of Duties

Key Responsibilities:

Perform as the official Black Hawk College mascot at college and community events (e.g., athletic events, ag completions, student life events, graduation, recruitment events, etc.).

Maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm while in costume that aligns with the personality of the mascot.

Interact positively with students, staff, alumni, and community members.

Promote school spirit and student engagement through fun, creative mascot appearances.

Follow safety and conduct guidelines while in costume.

Maintain the cleanliness and condition of the mascot costume.

Maintain confidentiality of who is the face beneath the mascot.

Assist with marketing efforts (e.g., social media content, photo shoots, news appearances, media days, etc.).

Work as a team with other mascot related staff in order to create a cohesive environment.

Education & Experience

Qualifications:

Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Must meet the costume manufacturer’s recommended size and mobility requirements to ensure safe performance (including height, build, and range of motion).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Comfortable performing in front of large crowds.

Reliable, responsible, and professional in representing the college.

Preferred Skills:

Background in athletic related activities due to the nature of wearing the mascot costume.

Developed interpersonal skills
