The Electrical Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive bids for commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical projects. This includes analyzing drawings and specifications, performing material and labor takeoffs, coordinating vendor pricing, and preparing detailed proposals. The role supports the preconstruction team in meeting bid deadlines and ensuring estimates align with company margins, project scope, and execution capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Analyze electrical drawings, specifications, and scope documents to determine materials and labor requirements
•Prepare detailed, accurate estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects
•Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing using McCormick or other estimating software
•Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotes
•Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations to clarify scope and execution strategy
•Participate in bid reviews and ensure all proposals meet internal margin and risk standards
•Track historical cost data to refine future estimates and improve pricing accuracy
•Maintain up-to-date databases of labor units, materials costs, and vendor pricing
•Assist in value engineering and alternate design solutions during the pre-construction phase
•Ensure timely submission of bids in alignment with bid calendars and client deadlines
•Checking incoming items for damage or defects
COMPETENCIES/REQUIRED SKILLS:
•High school diploma or GED; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred
•5+ years of experience in electrical estimating for commercial or industrial construction
•Proficient in estimating software (e.g., McCormick, Accubid) and Microsoft Office Suite
•Strong knowledge of NEC, electrical systems, and construction sequencing
•Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documents
•Excellent math, organizational, and written communication skills
•Proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
Preferred Qualifications:
•Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician License
•Experience with design-build and conceptual estimating
•Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid)
