Seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer for construction projects.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (WT) provides construction management services to numerous clients in a multitude of business sectors, throughout the United States. WT Business Offices have delivered successful construction projects in healthcare, higher education, laboratories, business offices, manufacturing, retail development, food processing and warehouse development. Construction activities are unlimited and require the EH&S Engineer to have a broad range of technical and managerial expertise.

Minimum candidate Accreditations

Bachelors Degree in an Environmental Health and Safety Related field Recognized Safety Professional Certification (examples) BCSP (GSP or ASP)

Desired candidates will be able to demonstrate:

Professional communications skills verbally as well as in written format. Personal development and commitment to their advancement and development.

Successful candidates must demonstrate the following experience and/or capabilities:

Perform regular job site inspections to identify, document and recommend mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions and verify correction actions have been completed. Support incidents investigations to include interviews, data compilation, photographs and completing proper documentation. Evaluate various planning/permits such as: Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection, Excavation, Steel Erection, Energized Work, Pre-cast Tilt-Up as examples for effective and appropriate mitigation techniques. Industrial Hygiene principles and techniques involved in Hearing conservation, Lasers, Silica, Asbestos, Lead work, as examples. Understanding of fire protection, flammable/combustible materials storage/management. Working knowledge of OSHA Regulations The preceding experience and capabilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the needs of the site and safety/field management varying by location, within the business unit.

Working Conditions

Work is conducted in both indoor office settings, and outdoor constructions jobsite settings requiring sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work hours will be determined at the Project or work assignment basis. Noise level varies based on location. Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to, steel toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)

Whiting-Turner will train qualified candidates to develop:

General knowledge of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, environmental codes, availability of industry-specific codes and guidelines. General knowledge of general construction processes, practices and work sites. Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Suretrak, Primavera (or other scheduling software.

Basic qualifications for a candidates include:

Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology or Construction Management, Construction Technology. Knowledge of engineering principles. Knowledge of basic business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel. Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions and engineering/architectural drawings. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics or working with craft workers. The Companys salary ranges are dependent on a number of factors including but not limited to role, level and location. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education, location, and experience, applicants abilities and market and business considerations. The annual base salary range listed is subject to change at any time, in the Companys discretion, and does not alter in any way the at-will nature of the employment relationship. The foregoing information reflects base salary only and does not include other forms of available compensation to which employees may be entitled including but not limited to profit sharing, stock appreciation rights, retirement compensation, travel subsistence, vacation, sick leave, parental leave, healthcare, life insurance, disability insurance, and other compensations/benefits, which are dependent upon various factors including but not limited to years of service, location, performance, etc.

This salary range is for Maryland/DC only.
