Assistant Counsel (Assistant Special Prosecutor)

Serve as Assistant Special Prosecutor to the agency's Special Prosecutor/Inspector General, performing a range of functions including:
Reviewing, analyzing, and conferencing cases of abuse and/or neglect with agency investigators, especially those with potential criminal elements, for referral to regional District Attorneys Offices.
Collaborating with law enforcement partners throughout the state on cases with potential for criminal charges.
Conducting legal research on criminal law, criminal procedure law, social service law, and executive law as needed.
Participating in forensic interviews at Child Advocacy Centers and investigatory interviews related to abuse and neglect allegations.
Engaging in local and statewide task forces focused on criminal investigations and prosecution of abuse or neglect of vulnerable populations.
Developing and delivering training on relevant legal issues for law enforcement, prosecutors, advocacy groups, and internal agency staff.
Potentially appearing in court in jurisdictions where cross-designation or other arrangements permit.
Assisting local Assistant District Attorneys with active prosecutions arising from incidents within the Justice Centers jurisdiction.
Supporting other units within the Justice Center, including DeNovo, case closure, and administrative litigation.
Traveling up to 20% of the time.
Salary range: $93,659 - $118,388 per year. Qualifications
Must be admitted to the New York State Bar and in good standing, with prosecutorial experience. A commitment to public service, excellent research and writing skills, and NYS residency are required. Preferred candidates will have at least three (3) years of criminal prosecutorial experience, especially with victim-driven cases. Additional Information
